If I asked you whether or not you’ve been to both the dentist and the doctor in the past year, how many of you would be able to respond that you had? Taking care of oneself is a key aspect to being a gentleman (or gentlewoman), and that extends beyond just grooming and dressing well. We have to take care of our bodies by letting professionals check up on us once in a while.
If you’re not aware, under basic dental insurance you can go to the dentist twice per year for a cleaning for free. For free! All it “costs” you is a little bit of time, and perhaps getting over an irrational fear of the dentist that is for some reason shared among many people. If you’re actually brushing and flossing regularly, and not eating mounds of candy every week, a dental visit should be nice and painless. I personally love the feeling of leaving the dentist with a super clean mouth. Gets me back to base and lets me recommit to flossing daily again before I fall off and go back to my typical 2 or 3 times a week regimen.
As far as going to the doctor, an annual check-up is also free. All you have to do is schedule an appointment and you can make sure your basic health is firing on all cylinders. This is important because even in a basic check-up the doctor can see if you are generally healthy, or if maybe there are some issues you need to take care of. High blood pressure, eyesight issues, breathing issues, and plenty more can all be checked during your appointment. You should want to know if you have issues in these and other categories so you can start making adjustments in your lifestyle to get back to a healthy state.
That’s pretty much it. It’s not rocket science. There are two free checkups you can do annually that will help you be the healthiest version of yourself. You’re not being smart if you’re ignoring these checkups. Call your doctor. Call your dentist. Schedule appointments. It’s better to catch issues early than have to pay for it later. This has been a Public Service Announcement from Influential Gentleman. Carry on.
