NFL Game of the Week: Patriots at Chiefs
Tom Brady and the Patriots are starting in their 8th consecutive AFC conference title. That is an NFL record by a long shot. Brady seems to be ageless, and while there are those quick to criticize his play style and check-down passing, those of us who rightfully recognize him as the GOAT simply see that he does what it takes to win time and time again. The Chiefs, on the other hand, have one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL, and will be looking to do what they always do, namely, rack up a ton of points. Belicheck and the Patriots were able to get a win at home earlier in the year, but will they be able to spoil the Chiefs Super Bowl hopes, and hand Andy Reid yet another conference championship loss? Tune in to CBS on Sunday, January 20th at 6:40 pm to find out.
NBA Game of the Week: Timberwolves at 76ers
Jimmy Butler has recently found himself in some controversy once again for not keeping his mouth shut. He’s upset at the role he has on the Sixers blah blah blah. The dude is a prime competitor and a great player, but you’re involved in a “Big 3” situation now so it’s impossible to get everything you want, especially when you’re the last to join. That being said, this game will be extra enticing because it is against his former team, whom he left on very poor terms after stating that they had no shot of winning without him. The Timberwolves will be looking to shut him up hard, and he and the Sixers will be looking to get another win and solidify themselves as major contenders in the East. Should be fun. Tune in Tuesday, January 15th at 7 pm.
NHL Game of the Week: Maple Leafs at Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning are cruising through the NHL this season. At 72 points they are far and away the best team in hockey. Nikita Kucherov is scoring for fun, and the Tampa Bay offense is putting up goals every night. The Toronto Maple Leafs, however, is having a solid season as well, currently 3rd in the East. If you’ve noticed a trend in my top picks for the week, it is usually teams looking to make statements. Toronto winning on the road against the best team in the NHL will certainly tell everyone in the Eastern Conference that they’re a team to be reckoned with. The Leafs take on the Lightning on Thursday, January 17th at 7:30 pm.
Premier League Game of the Week: Chelsea at Arsenal
No question for game of the week in the Premier League this weekend, as this is the only matchup between top 5 teams in the league standings. Arsenal currently sit at 41 points, 6 points behind 4th place Chelsea. It is very hard to play catch-up in the Premier League, and going down 9 points could make top-4 hopes all but impossible this season. I’m not going to lie, I’ve been killing it with my picks this year in the Premier League. Games have not only been close from, but have been full of excitement from start to finish. I expect some goals in this one, but I definitely expect a hard-fought battle between two storied franchises. Tune in Saturday, January 19th at 12:30 on NBC Sports.
Weekly Movie Recommendation: Glass
If you’re a fan of M. Night Shyamalan, this is a no-brainer for you. Glass combines Shyamalan’s films Unbreakable and Split. It tracks a security guard with supernatural powers, as well as a man with twenty-four different personalities. Not knowing much else about it I’d imagine it will be kind of weird, but also very entertaining. Glass hits theaters this weekend, so give it a watch and let me know what you think!
