January Drink of the Month: Hot Toddy

Our first Drink of the Month is one of my personal favorites for the winter season: the Hot Toddy. While a Hot Toddy is technically defined as hot whiskey, normally made with some herbs and spices, it has generally come to be used in reference to tea spiked with whiskey.

Black tea is my favorite tea, so we will be using that specifically this month, with some other ingredients as well. I’m all about efficiency and convenience, so this drink takes about 3 minutes to make.

1 Black Tea Pouch (I use Bigelow pouches)
1 cup boiling water
1-1.5 oz of your choice bourbon
2 tbsp of lemon juice (optional)
1 tbsp honey

Boil water in saucepan, teapot, etc
Remove water from heat and add in tea bag and lemon juice
Allow tea to steep for 4 minutes
In your mug, pour 1-1.5 oz of bourbon”
Pour tea over bourbon
Mix in 1 tbsp honey
